Description: The DEA National Prescription Drug “Take-Back” initiative that seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. Peoria PD will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at the Peoria Sports Complex on Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

Public Safety Night is a 100% free family event held to celebrate the community working together to solve community issues and is a way for Peoria Police and Fire to thank the community for their support. G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods),started in 1997 as a weather friendly alternative to National Night Out and is held in October in conjunction with National Crime Prevention Month and National Fire Prevention Week. There are emergency vehicles on display from various agencies including a medical helicopter and booths with all types of personal and home safety. Some of the organizations that have been with us over the years are Safe Kids Maricopa County, Westbrook Sheriff's Posse, St. Joseph's Hospital, Peoria Target Stores, and many city departments.
